What we do
We meet regularly throughout the year for programs and service project planning. Members from the Orono - Old Town Kiwanis Club actively participate in a variety of service projects. In addition to ushering at Univeristy of Maine home football and hockey games, read on to learn more about some of our projects.
Support Literacy
- Provide a dictionary or thesarus to every 3rd grader in six area schools.
- Give away books during kindergarten registration events in our communities.
- Stock the used book table at Hannafords on Stillwater Ave in Orono.
- Support public library programs in Orono and Old Town
Youth Recreation
- Sponsor Little League Teams
- Repair donated bicycles so they are road ready for riders
- Provide funding for camper scholarships at Camp CaPella
- Volunteer at Special Olympic Events
- Support Old Town-Orono YMCA
Scholarships
Each spring, our scholarship committee reviews applications and selects students to receive a scholarship from our club. We gather to celebrate the leadership, academic and community service achievements of the recipients. The scholarship awards program is a pride filled evening – for our club, for our 2023 scholarship winners & their families, and for high school counselors/key club advisors.
